St Petersburg was the capital of Russian Empire for about 200 years. You can see and feel it while touring around the magnificent estates just outside the city and visiting marvelous mansions and palaces within it.
When you pass the passport control, you meet your guide right in the port. You start exploring St Petersburg with a scenic drive around the historic center of the city, where you get the general idea of its history and culture and make several stops to take amazing photos. Then you catch the speed boat that takes you to Peterhoff – an Imperial residence just outside St Petersburg, known as “Russian Versailles”. You will tour its marvelous gardens and admire the gorgeous fountains, which are definitely the jewel of this brilliant estate. A visit to Monplaisir – the favorite palace of Peter I – will add to the impression. You will have a chance to have a lunch or a snack in the park, and then you drive back to the downtown. We invite you to visit one of the most beautiful churches in St Petersburg – Savior on Spilled Blood. It is not only famous and spectacular, but also has a remarkable story behind. You finish your day with a relaxing canal ride on a boat, which gives you the opportunity to see the city from a completely different angle. After that you are welcome to go back to the ship and have some rest, or take part in one of the evening activities, such as a ballet night, a spectacular folk show or a dinner in town.
Your guide picks you up in the port and you start your day with a visit to the most important museum in St Petersburg – the State Hermitage. It is a huge complex of several buildings, which houses an incredible collection of about 3 million art works. You will see the world-known masterpieces by Rembrandt, Leonardo, Rafael and Michelangelo, and then, full if impressions and new information, you will have some time for lunch or coffee. Refreshed, you continue with the visit to Faberge museum, located in a recently restored palace and having a great collection of authentic Easter eggs, recognized all around the world, as well as other luxurious jewels. To crown it all, you visit St Isaac’s Cathedral, which is one of the largest in Europe, and its interiors are fantastic. You can finish your day after that, or spend the evening in the city by participating in one of the night events.
You meet your guide in the terminal and take the scenic drive to one of the suburbs of St Petersburg – the town of Pushkin, very closely connected with the name of the most famous Russian poet. You will go to the Catherine’s Palace – one of the most luxurious residences of the Russian Tzars, where you will be astonished with the amount of gold and opulence. You will also see the miracle of the Amber Room and hear its fascinating story. Then you will have a chance to have some lunch or a snack, and proceed to another Imperial estate in Pavlovsk. You will tour around the palace and see its interiors, which are much more cozy and private, and will be able to compare the real life of the royal family with what they tried to show to the others. Then you drive back to St Petersburg and have an opportunity to make a shopping stop and buy some souvenirs before you return to the ship.
