Backstage of St. Petersburg

Duration – 4 hours

If you come to St Petersburg and go only to popular tourist places, you will never see its real life and face. Take a step aside and try to go off the beaten track, and the city will open its unexpected beauty just for you! Our experienced guide will take you to all the secret corners and tell you unbelievable stories that will make you listen with your mouth open.

We pick you up at your hotel at the agreed time and you start close to the Vosstaniya square to visit a yard on Liteyniy prospect. It looks like an aristocratic estate from the 19th century: there is a nice garden with sitting benches, bas-reliefs and a dry fountain in the Renaissance style. The most surprising thing about it is that this yard is inhabited by ordinary people, who live their everyday lives in such surroundings.

Then you go to the Mosaic yard nearby. It was decorated by the teachers and students of the Minor Art Academy, and every surface is covered by colorful mosaics. Then you proceed to see the home of Carlsson – a character from a famous Astrid Lindgren’s kids story. He has a house on the roof, but we don’t promise that he invites you for a cup of tea with raspberry jam!

Next you go to the house first owned by the Duke Tolstoy – NOT the famous writer, just his very distant relative. Anyway, the house is a brilliant example of modernistic architecture. The arched inner courtyard is also well worth seeing.

After a short coffee break go straight into a fairy tale! One of the centrally located yards is an open-air illustration of the Wizard of Oz. Here you see all the beloved characters: the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Soldier, and, for sure, Dorothy and Toto. Goes without saying that you enter this yard by a yellow-brick road!

You finish your exploration with a Chess yard. Here instead of just benches and a playground you see a giant chess, made of metal, and can even try to play a game. Don’t forget to look at the windows of the surrounding houses, and you will find some chess stain-glass.

We guarantee that this tour will leave you with the brightest impressions and you will definitely see much more than a usual tourist. Contact us to book and learn more!
